"gmctavish needs more space" (gmctavish)

I was on Subarus website the other day, and realized that you can get a manual in every car they sell. That’s unsurprising in the Impreza, BRZ, and WRX, but I wouldn’t have been surprised if the others were auto-only.
I already knew you could get the Forester in manual still, which I thought was pretty cool.
But it’s the same with the Legacy, and the Outback, and the Crosstrek. That’s really cool of them, even if the manual isn’t offered in every trim level of every car. I can’t think of anyone else who has a manual in every model, at least in Canada.

You can get manual Legacys and Outbacks up there in Canuckistan? WTF.
I do know that Mini offers manuals in every car they sell regardless of trim levels or other options. Hard to beat that.

If I’m honest I forgot about Mini, I seldom see any newer than R53s. That is hard to beat.
I don’t imagine the lots are covered with manual outbacks and legacies, but the manual is indeed the standard transmission on base models on the Canadian site

That’s odd, I work for Subaru and 2015 and up Legacys and Outbacks are CVT only last I checked.

In the states? The Canadian website lists the 6-speed manual in 2017 2.5i models

I just looked on Subaru’s website. You can’t get a manual on the Forester XT. So in order to get the exciting engine you have t get the boring transmission...

I know Mini does.
Then again, it’s one car stretched 1000 different ways.

Pretty sure Kia offers a manual in everything but the K900. That’s the only one I can think of that comes close.

Doing a bit more research, looks like you can’t get either crossover w/manual anymore (in the US, anyway), but the previous gen you could.

Every Mazda except the CX-9 (and CX-3?). Not as good as you’d think given their image and small portfolio.

I think you can get a manual transmission in every French car. You can get it in every Renault from the Twingo all the way to the flagship Espace, 108 to the brand new 5008 when looking at Peugeot and Citroen even offers a manual in the DS line, even in the DS5, the Brand’s Euro flagship

I don’t know about the Tiguan, but I know the Touareg definitely doesn’t have a manual option. I believe the rest do though

You know the reasons. Manual transmission are offered because they are cheap. An automatic is objectively better at this point, and while a manual may be more fun, that’s also a small niche. By pairing with the base engine, they simplify their logistics on a low selling product, and don’t have to worry about overbuilding the transmission to handle more power or doing additional testing on the additional combinations.

Yea I work in the US, Vermont specifically, so it may be different for the Canadian market. I remember with the 2015 redesign here in the states it was heavily touted as CVT only as a selling point.

Ute why not just use the WRX trans like the XTs have in the past?

I think you still need to run the combo through EPA testing and the like.
